History
of Annie Ruth's Sisterhood projects
Sisterhood has always been an empowering force in Annie Ruth's life.
In 2000 she created a sister poster and photography project, utilizing
photographer Clatties Moorer, along with diverse women from the Cincinnati
community to send a message of universal sisterhood through art.

The sisters that helped Annie Ruth with this endeavor were
Sharon M. Draper, Acclaimed author and 1997
National Teacher of the Year, Rhonda Rae Smith,
Storyteller, Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney, Publisher
of the Cincinnati Herald, Inyeai Ororokuma, JD,
Attorney & CPS Career Paths Consultant, Marian
Peraza, Violinist, Selena Stripling,
Minister, and Honeylynn Vogelpohl, University
of Cincinnati.

For numerous years Annie Ruth has visited schools
throughout the region. She has presented in national conferences and
collaborated with organizations such as African American Women on
Tour, the National Council of Negro Women, National Speaking of Women's
Health Foundation, and numerous others. In 2002 She released her debut
CD, "Soul of a Sister" and Annie Ruth's song, "My
Sista My Friend" is rapidly becoming an anthem for sisterhood
groups across the country.
In 2005 Annie Ruth created Dada Rafiki as a way
to pay tribute to positive sisters in Cincinnati through art. Dada Rafiki (pronounced dah-dah rah-fee-kee)
denotes "sister friend" in the Kiswahili language of Eastern
Africa. the community embraced the art and women of all ages and backgrounds
overflowed the Arts Consortium of Cincinnati at the Cincinnati Museum
Center.

Eight positive sisters were honored in the first program,
however over 22 works were created or matched with other positive
sisters throughout the Tri-state area. The eight women that
were honored with a special hand-detailed limited edition
print were:
Michelle Davis & Anita Burke, Coaches
of the 12U Queen City Jaguars Girl's Basketball (AAU) team,
Judge Cheryl D. Grant, Hamilton County Municipal
Court, Tracy Cook, Esq., Executive Director
of ProKids, Toilynn O'Neal, Owner of New
American Art Gallery II, Dr. Judith Harmony,
Founder of Harmony Project, Minister Tracie Marie
Hunter, Esq., General Manager, WCVG 1320 AM, Kingdom
Life Ministries, and Sharon M. Draper, Acclaimed
Author & Educator

In 2006 CAA
hosted the Dada Rafiki Art Exhibit in their second
floor lobby. This is a unique exhibit honoring positive women in Cincinnati
and the exhibit features the work of over 25 local and nationally-acclaimed
artists and writers who created 22 paintings, photographs, mixed media
compositions, and accompanying poetry. CAA will permanently display
the artwork in their Jordan Crossing Complex.
Among the many colorful pieces is a painting honoring CAA President
and CEO, Gwen L. Robinson, entitled "Unity the Next Generation
II" by Velma J. Morris. The accompanying writing was written
by Jacqueline Johnson-Wilkinson's work entitled "Gifted."
